The Saturday Request Show 8am - 10am

One of Meridian Radio's long serving and very experienced broadcasters, Dave Berry has delighted Saturday morning breakfast show listeners for years with his enthusiastic and lively style of presentation, his wide choice of music and his usual sacks full of requests from listeners.

After a previous incarnation with Joyce Green Hospital Radio, Dave joined us first in the early 1980's. Dave has a love for African and Indian food, bangra music and also the latest chart music, as well as the hits of past decades.

He can usually be spotted bounding around the wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on a Friday night collecting requests, and is also a well known local disc jockey.
Alan King
Alan King

On Air

Friday evening "Start Your Weekend" 6pm - 8pm

Alan King joined Meridian Radio at about the time Noah launched the Ark!.

Currently, Alan is Meridian Radio's Programme Manager, a role he undertook on his return after a spell working for commercial radio in Kent.

Like the proverbial bad penny Alan returned to Meridian Radio late in 2004. He was instrumental in the development of the computer system which provides the backbone of our service.

It really all started for Alan in 1977 when he joined the station. It was then that he shared Friday evenings with Mike Bartlett, from which a lifetime friendship and respect developed. In his time with Meridian Alan has acted as Fund raiser, organising a sponsored bike ride from Nottingham to London, assisting in an auction on BBC local radio and a marathon broadcast. His passion for music extends from big band to Rock n Roll and on to Easy Listening, the sixties, seventies - in fact almost anything with a beat or rhythm!

Alan has turned out for the Showbiz 11 football team and was a junior with Millwall. He also played for Canterbury City and Torquay United. He had trials with a few other clubs, Charlton included - but not for 'his' team SPURS.

Tune into Meridian Radio on Friday evenings to hear Alan from 6pm for music "just the way you like it".
Duncan Martin
Duncan Martin

On Air

Sunday Brunch 10 am to 12 noon

Duncan's first job in radio was at BBC Radio Norfolk who gave him his first break reading the early morning travel reports on the Breakfast Show. Duncan's hope that he would be given a helicopter to fly around in didn't quite meet the management's thoughts and the station budget so he was confined to the studio.

He then moved on to Siren FM, a community station in Lincoln. where he did a weekly programme which gave airtime to local bands. "One of the best acts we had in the studio was a street busker who played a rather large didgeridoo" he recalls.

Duncan is now with us here at Meridian Radio and can be heard on Sunday Mornings from 10am - Noon. He loves being back in the area his parents are from - "It's like being back home."
John E. Davies
John E. Davies

On Air
Wednesday evening 6pm - 7pm

John E.Davies is a local lad. He was brought up in Lakedale Road, Plumstead, and schooled at Bloomfield. He has been in Hospital Radio for over 30 years, but has only recently joined Meridian Radio. He started HR at St Nicks in Plumstead, and then he was at Erith Cottage Hospital. He was the first non founder member at Joyce Green Hospital in Dartford and remained a member until the Hospital closed in 2000. He now runs the RJG website.

In his more youthful years, he ran the popular mobile disco Musification. And the Cold Harbour Disco Club, in Eltham. His son Tim is carrying on the family trade as DJ TymmyD.

His musical tastes are wide and varied. He will happily tell you that having first seen the Rolling Stones at the Woolwich Odeon, it was 30 years before he want to another Stones concert at Wembley Stadium. But has remained a lifelong fan. John feels just at home at The Royal Albert Hall for Proms concert or any local Jazz or Folk club.

"I just like music. If you're a music fan, then you can easily appreciate any artists efforts to entertain an audience, whatever kind of music they play." John is also a fan of the steam radio, and likes nothing better that going to one of the BBC's London studios for a recording session. Usually comedy shows.

His other great love is live sport. Firstly, it is Motor Racing at Rockingham, Brands Hatch or Silverstone. He also likes to go to County Cricket, International Rugby and even Wimbledon. "You just can't beat the atmosphere at a live event" he says.

You can find out more about John by following the various links on this page. Each week, John will publish his weeks play list on the internet, for anyone who wishes to find out more about titles and artistes and albums used during his Wednesday night show.

Derek Scott
Derek Scott

On Air

8-10 am Sunday - Wednesday

A LONG TIME AGO…. In a hospital not far away Derek broadcast to the patients of St Nicholas Hospital, Plumstead on Radio St Nicks. It was whilst there that he introduced Alan King to the delights of broadcasting. Many years later in 2007 things turned full circle and Derek accepted Alan’s invitation to return to the air. Derek has also broadcast on hospital Radio in Hither Green (Park Radio), community radio (Radio Cabletown and Greenwich Sound) and a short stint on London Music Radio. He also made a couple of programmes for the TV service of Greenwich Cablevision.

Having presented the Meridian Breakfast Show between 7 & 9 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for nearly 3 years Derek took a break from early rising in 2010 and, instead presented a Morning show on Wednesdays called Midweek. In May the early morning call of the studio was too great and he returned to the Breakfast show, again Mondays to Wednesdays but in a new time slot of 8-10. More recently, he co-presented a Music & chat show, It Takes Two with Hazel Adamson between 4 & 6 PM on Thursdays. This has recently finished , if for no other reason than to prove that he does have a home to go to!

Derek has a wide ranging taste in music (“as long as it’s good”) although his favourite decade is the 60s. He also lays claim to being the resident Beatles fanatic on the station.
Owen
Proctor-Jackson
Owen Proctor - Jackson

On Air
Sunday 4pm - 5pm

Owen is a resident of South London, having moved from Canterbury to Woolwich or Plumstead (depending on who you ask) a few years ago.  He is really enjoying working at Meridian Radio, whilst remaining confused as to whether he lives in Woolwich or Plumstead!

You can hear Owen broadcast at 4pm on Sunday afternoons.  Owen has such a wide taste that some might say he has no taste at all. We at Meridian Radio think that such an opinion would only be held by someone very mean!  You'll hear Owen play a great variety of music - from Tom Waits to Aqua, and a whole variety of merry minstrels in between.

As well as attempting to be informative about the music he plays, Owen will also prattle on about any other subject that comes to mind, leaping from subject to subject like a toddler who's found the jam.  More often than not, however, Owen will end up discussing his thoughts and adventures on London's public transport system (when you spend around three hours a day on public transport, it tends to dominate things).
Matt Clinch

Sunday 4pm - 5pm "In the Meantime"

Matt joined the Meridian Radio team at the end of 2010. He currently presents the Sunday early evening show "In The Meantime" with Owen Proctor-Jackson between 5 & 6pm.

He is also a blogger and keeps track of locally developing issues. A huge speech radio fan he'll rarely switch away from LBC, Talksport and Radio 4.

Matt is also a keen footballer and plays for a Sunday league team. He relaxes by growing his own fruit and veg in his Charlton garden.

On Air

Monday 6pm - 8pm

Ronnie is a semi-retired international management consultant and writer who has been employed most of his working life designing and presenting management courses for a variety of audiences in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He says he acquired his very mixed taste in music form listening to Terry Wogan on Radio 2 in the mornings as he drove to clients and Classic FM as he returned home!

By chance he caught a bus home from his part-time job at the University of Greenwich and found sitting next to him was the ebullient Dave Berry who invited him to visit Meridian Radio to see if we could use his presenting experience.

The rest is history!
